City, South Dakota, 57701! Job Title: Registered Nurse - PICU

weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum
1.5 years PICU RN experience License: Registered Nurse - Board of
Nursing Certifications: BLS, PALS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must be
comfortable working in both General Pediatrics and PICU. Proficient
in physical assessment of patients, ages 0 to adult. Ability to
evaluate patient symptoms and associated vital signs. Experience in
administering medications as prescribed. Educate patients and
families on care plans. Proficient in using the EPIC charting
system. Ability to titrate drips and care for mechanically
ventilated patients. Description: This role involves working in a
15-bed Pediatric Unit and a 5-bed PICU. The RN will care for
patients aged 0-18 years and adult overflow/visiting patients.
Common diagnoses include respiratory illness, diabetes, septicemia,
cellulitis, hyperbilirubinemia, neglect/abuse, mental health
issues, trauma, neurology, and general surgeries. General surgeries
may span ENT, gastrointestinal, urological, orthopedic,
neurosurgery, and trauma cases. In PICU, the RN will treat
critically ill or intensive care patients. The most common
conditions include acute and chronic respiratory insufficiency,
circulatory failure, infectious diseases leading to organ
dysfunction, endocrine and metabolic disorders, neurologic
diseases, toxic exposures, trauma, and hematologic/oncologic
diseases. Patient ratios in General Pediatrics can be 1:5. In PICU,
the patient load may be 1:1 or 1:2. Support staff includes a charge
nurse, CNA, phlebotomy, and a resource nurse. RNs will start their
own IVs and may access ultrasound for difficult placements.
Additional support includes pediatric pharmacy, social work, and
case management. The culture is described as friendly and

scheduled on an alternating basis. Time off requires pre-approval.
