Marketing Specialist (Program Assistant II)

LOCATION: Research Affairs

STARTING HOURLY RATE: $17.48+ per hour, depending upon education and experience, GH

POSITION PURPOSE: Market new technologies, develop and implement commercialization strategies, support entrepreneurial and economic development efforts and manage export control functions. Duties include organizing and facilitating competitions, programs and events; training and educating staff on export control compliance, disclosure requirements, intellectual property, commercialization and other functions of technology transfer; acting as liaison for government agencies and community; assist with the development and implementation of strategic plans; research and development of marketing materials; securing meeting facilities, organizing and leading tours; office support including filing, making travel reservations, coordinating meetings, creating correspondence, maintaining calendar and scheduling appointments; collection of data and preparation of reports; and other duties as assigned.


Knowledge of:

  • business practices and procedures, economics, and best marketing practices;
  • economic trends, international trade relations;
  • general methods and processes in areas such as purchasing, budgeting, accounting, and other administrative activities pertinent to government operations;
  • the ability to understand applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations;
  • high level of proficiency with computer systems and common applications;
  • English, including grammar, spelling and punctuation;
  • work processes and practices pertaining to public administration, management and professional subject areas;
  • basic statistical measures, research methods, database development and maintenance.

Ability to:

  • create customized marketing plans;
  • organize and prioritize work, coordinate schedules, understand and relay instructions and meet deadlines;
  • gather, interpret, read, comprehend, compile, analyze and summarize data from a variety of sources;
  • communicate information clearly and concisely in person and/or on the telephone, exercising tact, patience and professional demeanor;
  • establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships, interacting in a supportive manner with a variety of cultures and personalities, industry partners, faculty, staff, students, and the public;
  • lift and carry boxes weighing up to approximately 20 lbs.;
  • use a computer, including lettering, layout, and image editing tools, and other office equipment;
  • provide outstanding customer service.
