weeks - Openings: 1 Description American Traveler is seeking an
experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Rapid
City, SD, working 12-hour night shifts with a minimum of 1 year of
PCU or telemetry experience required. Details - 56-bed Progressive
Care Unit within a hospital setting - Adult patient population with
a variety of diagnoses including CHF, acute renal failure,
hepatitis, ESLD, DM/DKA, pneumonia, sepsis, GI bleed, syncope,
chest pain, pulmonary emboli, respiratory failure, COPD,
arrhythmias, seizure disorders, overdose, and delirium tremens - RN
patient ratio of 1:4 on PCU/Tele (days and nights) - 12-hour night
shifts, 36 hours per week - Weekend rotation required — every other
weekend (50% per 4-week schedule); weekends include Friday,
Saturday, and Sunday - Every other holiday coverage required during
the contracted timeframe - Floating required in rotation with other
travelers to adult inpatient units including Med/Surg,
Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular, Oncology, ICU (based on
experience), and Observation - Epic EMR — experience preferred;
candidates without Epic experience may require manager approval -
Alaris infusion pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing system
used on the unit Requirements - Active RN license — South Dakota
(SD) or Compact license required - Current BLS and ACLS
certifications required - Minimum 1 year of PCU or telemetry RN
experience required - Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required
- Proficiency in IV starts, blood product administration, CIWA
protocol, drain/tube management, catheter insertion and management,
insulin drips (DKA and non-DKA), continuous bladder irrigation, and
chest tube maintenance - Experience with cardiac and vasoactive
drip titration required — most commonly Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem,
Amiodarone, and Levophed (up to 5 mcg); esmolol and other
beta-blocker/antihypertensive drip experience preferred (facility
will train if not) - Strong verbal and written communication,
clinical judgment, and physical assessment skills - Candidates must
reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility - Two
professional references dated within the past year required for
consideration - DOB and SSN required for consideration Additional
Information - Orientation includes 2 days of in-class/online
education followed by two 12-hour precepted shifts - Unit support
includes a free-floating charge nurse (2 per unit, 24/7), CNAs (1:8
ratio), a flex resource nurse, 24/7 phlebotomy for peripheral
draws, 24/7 respiratory therapy, 24/7 in-house hospitalists,
centralized telemetry monitoring, and a violent incident response
team - RNs are responsible for drawing blood from central lines;
phlebotomy covers peripheral draws only - Communication with
providers is conducted via paging system and secure chat -
Travelers may float to the ICU depending on experience; PCU RNs may
be expected to float to ICU - Team nursing model in use on the 6th
floor (Med/Surg cohort): RNs may be paired with an LPN, with each
carrying their own patient load and some task-sharing within scope
of practice - Pre/post pain scoring audits are conducted monthly —
travelers must maintain at least 90% compliance - All travelers are
required to attend shift huddles at 0625 (nights) and 1825 (days)
in the 7th floor conference room prior to shift start - Travelers
may occasionally be asked to precept nursing students - Approved
RTO is up to 7 days; contracts requiring a short week may need to
be extended to fulfill the full 13-week obligation - No RTO
approved during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August) -
Required scrub color for RNs is Navy Blue - Free parking is
available - First-time travelers are welcome to apply if they have
more than 2 years of RN experience - Previous permanent staff must
