License: Registered Nurse (RN) Certifications: BLS and CPI
(preferred to have prior to start but can obtain on assignment)
Must-Have: Ability to perform physical restraint on an agitated
patient if necessary. Description: The nurse will work in an
inpatient behavioral health setting. The unit accommodates
psychiatric patients, specifically children, adolescents, and
adults. The nurse will need to provide care for patients with
various diagnoses, including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia,
psychosis, and adjustment disorder. The facility may occasionally
have patients exhibiting violent or aggressive behavior.
Patient-to-nurse ratios will be 1:8, with support from psychiatric
technicians (ratio of 1:5-6). The responsibilities include
medication administration, care plan evaluations, documenting
patient progress, conducting admission screens, assessments, and
discharge planning. Other duties include performing minor wound
care, vital signs monitoring, and conducting the Columbia suicide
risk screen. The nurse should possess good communication skills and
the ability to manage challenging situations, including verbal
de-escalation techniques. There is security support available 24/7,
along with panic alarms for all caregivers. A medical doctor is
available on-call 24/7 to provide support. Charting will be done
through an electronic health record system. Staff may float between
the three floors of the facility as needed. Flexibility in
scheduling is required, with no guarantee of day or night shifts.
Weekend rotations will be every other weekend, with a combination
of shifts available. Working one major holiday, such as
Thanksgiving or Christmas, allows for the other holiday off each
year. Please note that time off approval goes through supervisors,
and requests during certain busy periods may not be possible.
