strong leadership! Position Summary The Medication Assistant (MA)
acts as a caregiver, delivering resident-focused nursing care and
daily living support to designated residents under the guidance of
a charge nurse. This role requires knowledge of age-appropriate
care tailored to the physical and psychological needs of residents
as outlined in their care plans. Key responsibilities include:
Assisting with essential health care needs, including daily living
activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, and
recording vital signs. Providing psycho-social support and personal
care to assigned residents. Helping residents with mobility,
including transferring, repositioning, and walking, using
appropriate techniques and equipment. Administering prescribed
medications as directed by a licensed nurse, adhering to state
regulations. Documenting resident care outcomes, medication
administration, and any changes in condition. Collecting
non-invasive body fluid specimens and vital signs. Maintaining
cleanliness in living areas through housekeeping and laundry
services. Encouraging resident participation in wellness and
recreational programs. Qualifications Preferred qualifications
include: High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Minimum age of
18. Previous experience as a clinical or nursing assistant is
advantageous. Completion of annual competency testing and
maintenance of continuing education credits, with a minimum of 12
hours required each year based on state mandates. Possession of all
necessary department-specific certifications. A valid driver’s
license and auto insurance may be required in certain cases.
State-specific requirements: Iowa: Certified Nursing Assistant
(CNA) certification required, along with successful completion of a
state-approved Certified Medication Aide/Assistant course.
Minnesota: Nursing assistant certification and completion of a
75-hour course, registered with the Minnesota Nursing Assistant
Registry, along with a state-approved Trained Medication Assistant
course. North Dakota: CNA certification required, with completion
of a state-approved Certified Medication Aide/Assistant course.
Medication Assistant I or II certification may be necessary
depending on the facility type. South Dakota: Successful completion
of the state-approved Certified Medication Aide (CMA) course is
