working with Cynet Health to find a qualified PICU RN in Rapid
City, South Dakota, 57701! Job Title: Registered Nurse - PICU

years general nursing experience required License: Registered Nurse
(RN) Certifications: BLS, PALS, NIHSS Must-Have: 1.5 years general
nursing experience or greater than 2 years experience for
first-time travelers Description: 15 bed Pediatric Unit; 5 Bed
PICU. Will work through both General Pediatrics and Pediatric
Intensive Care. Patients range from ages 0-18 years and include
adult overflow for stable medical cases. Common diagnoses include
respiratory illness, diabetes, septicemia, cellulitis,
hyperbilirubinemia, neglect/abuse, mental health issues, trauma,
neurologic conditions, and general surgeries. General surgeries may
include ear/nose/throat, gastrointestinal, urological, orthopedic,
neurosurgery, and trauma. Requirements include caring for patients
with acute and chronic respiratory insufficiency, circulatory
failure, and other complex medical needs. Patient ratios in General
Pediatrics are 1:5. In Advanced Care Pediatrics, patient ratios are
1:1-2. Physical assessment of patients is essential. Nurses will
evaluate patient symptoms and vital signs. Administer medications
as prescribed and educate patients and families on the plan of
care. Proficient use of charting systems is required. PICU
experience includes the ability to titrate drips and care for
mechanically ventilated patients. Support on the unit includes
nurses drawing their own labs and starting their own IVs. Charge
nursing support is available across both units. Other resources
include nursing clinicians, nurse educators, and pediatric case
management. Charting will utilize a specific electronic system.
Floating may occur to other units as necessary. Weekend rotation is
every other weekend. Holiday expectations and time-off approvals
require pre-approval. The work environment promotes a friendly and
