Job Title: Registered Nurse - ICU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience is preferred. License: Registered Nurse - required by state nursing board. Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC (required). Must-Have: - Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing. - Epic experience. - Experience with complex ICU patients and IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics). - Strong critical thinking and assessment skills. - Ability to work well in a team setting and in a fast-paced environment. Description: This is a mixed unit with 39 beds. Patient types include complex surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma. Common diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, s/p cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma. Cardiac experience is preferred but not required. Fresh open hearts will not be accepted unless the traveler has experience, and the facility feels comfortable with this. Patient ratios are typically 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 depending on patient acuity. Support on the unit includes 1-2 nurse aides per unit plus a mobility float aide. Two charge nurses oversee all ICUs. Phlebotomy is available for peripheral blood draws only. The ICU registered nurses place all midlines. Resource nursing is staffing dependent. Respiratory therapists are available 24/7. There are three intensivists on days and two on nights, along with an APP on nights. Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift and one 8-hour shift in the ICU. Scheduling includes a weekend rotation every other week. There will be no on-call required. No time off is permitted during holidays or major local events. Approval for time off is required, extending up to 7 days to accommodate a full contract. Scrub color is navy.
