nurse RN PACU - Post Anesthesia Care for a travel nursing job in
Rapid City, South Dakota. Job Description & Requirements -
Specialty: PACU - Post Anesthesia Care - Discipline: RN - Duration:
13 weeks - 48 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, days, nights,
flexible, rotating - Employment Type: Travel 4 12's OT after 48
hours • Beds: 24 Pre-Op/Phase 2, 19 PACU • Minimum experience: Must
have 1.5 years of experience - system requirement • Will you accept
a first-time traveler? No • Patient Types: • Infants-Geriatric
patient population - they do not recover a ton of infants and would
be trained on recovery of that population. • Endo - will help prep
and discharge Endo patients but would not work Intra-Op just exted•
Ambulatory/Elective, Acute care/Trauma • Patient Ratios: • RN:
Pre-Op 1:2-3, PACU 1:1 or 1:2, Phase 2 1:2-4 • All ratios dependent
on acuity levels, presence of airways, ages, comorbidities, or on
any special monitoring, etc. • Required Certifications: • RN: BLS,
ACLS , PALS • Required Education: • Completion of a nursing
education program that is approved by a board of nursing;
Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing • Skills
required: • RN: • Night shift RN only (2030-0700): MUST have
Critical Care experience and competencies with ICU cases including
hemodynamic drips and ventilated patients. • Comfortability with
Preop, Recovery and Discharge of patients. • Comfortability to have
boarded patients if hospital census is full and there are no
inpatient beds available. • These skills are needed in addition to
competencies in the below. • Variable shift RN: May be learned in
orientation, but competencies include: IV insertion, ventilator
training, epidural/PCA set up/initiation, initiation of blood
product transfusions, competency with administration and monitoring
of moderate sedation (will not work Intra-op in Endo but would prep
and recover), critical thinking • Support on the Unit: • CNA: 6
Nurse aids in department during Daytime hours 0530-1700 • staff
numbers - 1-2 Nurse aides staffed in the PreOp unit, 1 Nurse aide
in our pre-procedure endoscopy unit, 1 nurse aide to assist in PACU
or float, and 1-2 nurse aides staffed in our Phase 2 unit. • Charge
nurse: 1 CRN in PreOp from 0500, as late as 1730, 1 CRN in PACU
from 0700, as late as 1930. 1 Evening appointed/trained charge from
1730 or 1930 until 2300. • Phlebotomy - Nurse staff draws own labs
or is able to call facility lab/phlebotomist to come assist if
needed. • IV/VAT Team - All nurses trained in IV insertion,
facility policy to have another nurse attempt if one nurse misses
twice. We have a few nurses trained on the Ultrasound to insert IVs
and have CRNA team assist with midline or IV insertions if needed.
• Resource Nurse - 3 Clinical Resource nurses in department 1-2 on
staff Monday-Friday or designated/appointed charge in their
absence. • RT - facility has RT team available to units as needed.
• Hospitalist - facility has hospitalists for inpatient population.
• Anesthesia/CRNA • Charting System/Equipment: • EPIC - please let
CRT know if traveler does not have EPIC experience so they can ask
approval • Omnicell • Floating: If yes, where? • Routinely: PreOp,
PACU, Endo prep and discharge, Phase 2 • Could be floated within
scope of practice and below wherever needed • Orientation:
(facility and unit) • General facility orientation • 1 weeklong
orientation - 1 day in each department (PreOp, PACU, Phase II,
Endo) • Scheduling: • Shift/Hours per week will depend on job
posting - please have traveler confirm with recruiter prior to
accepting, if offered. • Could be one of the following: •
Days/Variable - 3 12s per week (Days - shift would vary between
0500-2300) • Nights - 3 12s per week (Nights - 1830-0700). If
working nights, their 3 shifts would be scheduled in a row •
Weekend rotation: Pre-Op/PACU staff have 4 weekend call teams, each
caregiver responsible for a weekend call rotation every three weeks
• Call Required: Each caregiver has a 2300-0700 call shift about
every 2-3 weeks that is during Monday-Friday, in addition to their
scheduled 36 hours (WITH EXCEPTION OF NIGHT RN, NO 2300-0700 CALL
REQUIRED for that position). Then Each caregiver is also
responsible for their designated weekend. These shifts will change
throughout the contract period, but the requirement is a weekend
call (varied hours Fri-Sun) every 3 weeks. • Response time is 15
minutes. There is a sleep room and other options available. • There
are always 2 or more people on call at once: • Overnight (Mon-Fri)
- always 2 RNs On Call (2300-0530) • Saturday - 4 RNs ON CALL
during Dayshift (0530-1800), 2 OVERNIGHT 1800-0530 • Sunday - 4 RNs
ON CALL during Dayshift (0530-1800), 2 OVERNIGHT 1800-0700 •
Holiday Expectations: Holidays are rotated between call teams; all
holidays are on call rotations. Will work (2) holidays per year. •
Approval of time off? Time off requests go through Manager • No RTO
will be considered during the first 3 weeks of August annually
